CPL training – Distance learning


The CPL(H) (Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter) distance learning program consists of:

  • A 5 days “initial training” to be attended in Rungis/Orly
  • Personal work on the 15 CPL textbooks (printed or digital version)
  • Personal work on our e-learning platform
  • 43 online evaluation tests
  • Access to our online MCQ tests database

You’ll also be provided with a personalised follow-up all along the program that enable candidates to contact our pool of instructors for any technical or educational question.


The CPL(H) training program is composed of 13 courses:

  • 010 Air law
  • 021 Aircraft general knowledge (Airframe and systems, electricity, power-plants, emergency equipment)
  • 022 Instrumentation
  • 031 Mass and balance
  • 033 Flight planning and monitoring
  • 034 Helicopter performance
  • 040 Human performance
  • 050 Meteorology
  • 061 General navigation
  • 062 Radionavigation
  • 070 Operational procedures
  • 082 Principles of flight – Helicopter
  • 091 VFR Communication

The objective is to get the CPL(H) theoretical certificate.


It is mandatory to carry out a training in a complete and satisfactory manner in order to be authorized to submit examinations to the DGAC.

Attendance is therefore compulsory for all courses and the knowledge will be tested in the form of progress tests throughout the course.

Permission to undertake the official DGAC exams will be provided by the Institut MERMOZ head teacher according to the preceding requirements, and depending on the results of the mock exams.

  • 18 years old minimum at the time the license is delivered
  • Hold a valid PPL(H)
  • Class 1 medical fitness
  • Have a sufficient level of knowledge in mathematics and physics. A placement test may be required at the beginning of the training. Some candidates may be exempted depending on their level of study (The minimum level required is a science baccalaureate)
  • From Monday 24th to Friday 28th, February 2020 – FULL
  • From Monday 15th to Friday 19th, June 2020
  • From Monday 14th to Friday 18th, September 2020
  • From Monday 30th to Friday 11th, December 2020

A maximum of 30 trainees per Initial Training.
