INTRODUCTION

The Institut MERMOZ provides training programs to prepare for the FCL055D (IFR) and FCL055B (IFR) exams.

The FCL055D exam is the very first to be undertaken for any pilot wishing to travel abroad. It is, then, to be renewed according to the level reached (4, 5 or 6).

The FCL055B (IFR) is a FCL055D light version made for renewals.

A training made for IFR pilots

All pilots need to testify their English proficiency through a dedicated certificate. Pilots’ licenses shall mention such rating, which is to be kept valid all along the carrer.

The ICAO defined a proficiency rating scale that ranges from 1 to 6.

Level 1: Pre-elementary

Level 2: Elementary

Level 3: Pre-operational

Level 4: Operational

Level 5: Extended

Level 6: Expert

2021 / 100% success rate at the FCL055 exams.

TRAINING PROGRAM

– 4-days training course (26 hours), the test being undertaken on day number 5 via “Alpha LPO”. This course is open to all trainees, whatever their level of experience.

– “FLASH training”: 2 days (12 hours), the test being undertaken at the end of the 2nd day, via “Alpha LPO”. This training is only open for PPL holders or equivalent.

Alpha LPO is a Language Proficiency Organization approved by the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC).

  • Our training courses are provided by linguists and air traffic controllers or professional pilots, chosen for their pedagogical skills.
  • Our courses are given using modern means (iPads).
  • Our courses focus on the use of professional English and on communication (limited number of trainees).
  • Above all, an active preparation for the FCL055 exams given: study of operational documentation, simulated flights, active listening, oral communication…
OBJECTIVES

The lowest of the marks obtained in the examination will define the ICAO level.

  • Level 4 is granted whenever this mark is at least 10
  • Level 5 is granted whenever this mark is at least 14
  • Level 6 is granted whenever this mark is at least 18
